Pennstripe™

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'PAV300' PPAF

Pennstripe is a showy, compact clumping perennial grass with narrow arching leaves and spectacular feathery flower plumes from summer to fall. These foxtail looking plumes are a great reason to grow this plant, but couple this with it's main feature, and Pennstripe becomes a must for anyones garden.

The main feature of this variety is its stand out variegated foliage and compact form. Pennstripe grows to approximately 1.5 ft x 1.5 ft which is 2/5 the size of the common form. It's wonderful variegated foliage presents great contrast for other green, blue or red foliaged plants.

Environment: So far Pennstripe has not produced a viable seed, so this form is non-invasive to any areas where Pennisetum is not a native.

Uses: Mass plantings, accent plant for rockeries and borders. Low maintenance gardens. Plumes are suitable for dried arrangements. Colour contrast against other plants.

Care & Position: It will discolour in winter in cooler regions, so simply cut back in late winter or early spring for fabulous new growth. Mulch well and trim to 1/3 the size preferably in late fall or winter or when required. Fertilise with slow release fertiliser in late winter, early spring. Pennstripe tolerates a wide range of soils and climatic conditions, including poorly drained soils.
